It’s bound to have an effect on dealerships, probably in unexpected ways. E.g. some dealership firms already have fingers in the pie, if they have brands with EV ones. The one I deal with for a Toyota car has a long standing branch for Nissan, e.g. They trade with 3 or 4 firms, nominally on separate sites, but quite close together. The one I use doesn’t have separate places for some things, like MOT tests; they are all done at the same place round the corner. It may be that the cash flow of some firms will be worse than others. They probably haven’t thought that through. Another effect may be that second hand values might hold up, so maybe some dealers will make a profit out of that.

We've just had a flat 12V battery on our Yaris Cross after some 10 days. They just have advised me at the Toyota dealership to carry on a 12V booster, because according to their test procedures the battery and car electrics are ok. So why don't they just install such device in their bloody factory so you don't need to worry if your new car will strat? And it's not a cheap one, either...

If the 12v battery is disconnected and charged and checked will there be any codes that will have to be reset. Thanks for all the information on the Yaris I have a November 2020 Yaris Mk4 with 60,000 miles and the interior light got left on and run the battery down. It’s almost 4years old so the battery could be getting a bit old

We’re guessing, but one thing is certain. If they do implement a scheme based on distance run, the bureaucrats will have a field day implementing it. E.g. how will they measure it? All road users, or just UK registered ones? What about instrumentation, and who reads the figures, and so on. Reminds me of what happened when I owned a car that had zero VED (it was a Honda Civic 1.6) when there were varying rates depending on emissions. Every year, I had to declare that I had “paid” it - albeit £zero!

Well said, problem is the whole entire government system needs scrapping, it doesn’t work and is open for corruption by the mps. Why are pensioners having their winter heating allowance stopped when mps earning £80k + are keeping their winter fuel allowance….. why have they got a winter fuel allowance ???? The system no longer works and is clearly not fit for purpose

Well, you could always look up the train fares for a trip to Cardiff. But the other day I bought some petrol for my Yaris at 138.7 p/l at a branch of ASDA, so that’s about 14.6p/kWh thermal, or roughly 43p kWh traction output on a Yaris assuming at least 33% efficient. Incidentally, it was 10p/l less than a year ago - 6.7% deflation.

Hi Paul, I have done some of that run from Llanrwst turn off the A470 on to A548 for a mile and half to the B5113 towards Mwdwl Eithin and Mynydd Llanelian and turn right just before Llanelian-yn-Rhos on the B5381 for Dolwen and on to St Asaph to the A525 for Denbigh, Ruthin to Wrexham. That run from Llanrwst is some stunning scenery. catch you soon take care

Agreed that they are good at fuel economy (I run an Excel one on Bridgestone 205/45R17 83W tyres), but the most economical car I had in the past was an old Honda Civic Mk 9 diesel, on Michelin Primacy low drag ones, which made it squeeze just under the road tax zero band in those days. Every year I had to declare that I wasn’t paying anything! It had a 50l tank, so with a range of almost 700 miles, it was almost never refueled away from my local supermarket. Incidentally, around 9:30 the display exhibits the snag of speed limit detection by camera - 60 mph in that car park is optimistic!

A good demo as to why it’s not possible to do the test that is required for other types of engine! While I’m not advertising, all they could do would be to require cars to have built-in measurement kit, record the results, and hand the output over to the STASI, or whatever.

Hi Paul + Margret, it's a long drive to Cardiff, especially going there and back in the same day and it not the best of roads as most of it is single carriageway once you leave Wrexham. I've done this drive quite a few times from Wrexham to Cardiff for the rugby at the Principality Stadium. I hope the consultation went well, the Spire hospital's are good was Cardiff the only one you can get for this appointment I think there Spire hospital in Abergele by the Tesco and there is a Spire on Croesnewydd Road in Wrexham by the Maelor hospital, my brother had an operation there last November. Keep us up to date with your Margret's treatment and I wish her a very speedy recovery. Take care both

Toyota cares only about this little things. Then 2 2024 corollas caught on fire and Toyota refuses to refund the owners. It’s really going down customer care wise, and it’s a shame… in fact, from June Toyota lost 20% of its stock value (the cars caught on fire in June).

Indeed they are a nightmare. The wasps entered my home via the eaves of the roof but made a nest inside the loft. They entered my home and I got stung twice by the blighters. In the end I got a pro to get rid of them. He told me to leave the nest in the loft as they won’t come back. You have my total sympathy.
